Adiabatic Technologies, a Maharashtra-based startup, has raised ₹8.3 crore in seed funding to build custom lithium-ion batteries for demanding machines like warehouse robots, drones, and defense equipment – the kind of systems where a dead battery means real downtime. The round was co-led by Malpani Ventures and Avinya Ventures, with Appreciate Capital, DeVC, Operators Studio, and UPES Incubator also taking part.
Start with a simple truth most people never think about. The battery in your electric scooter would be a poor fit for a warehouse robot. Or a drone. Or a heavy industrial machine.
They all run under very different conditions. One needs to charge fast. Another needs to stay light while pushing hard bursts of power. A third has to survive heat, long shifts, and strict safety limits. A single off-the-shelf battery can’t do all of that well, and for machines that run all day, “well enough” isn’t good enough.
That mismatch is the whole opportunity Adiabatic is chasing
Founded in 2022 by Darshan Meher, the company builds custom battery packs, smart chargers, and its own battery-management systems for original equipment manufacturers. Its batteries go into robots, autonomous mobile robots, drones, defense gear, material-handling machines, EVs, and solar systems.
What’s interesting is the direction it’s deliberately moving in. Instead of fighting for the cheapest battery pack, a brutal, low-margin race, Adiabatic is going after the jobs where reliability matters more than price. A robot working three shifts needs a battery it can count on. A drone needs light, strong power. A defence system needs tight control over heat and safety. Those buyers pay for dependability, not for the lowest sticker price
The traction, by the company’s own numbers, is real: more than 20,000 battery systems deployed across 25-plus OEMs. Worth being straight here: those figures are company-reported, and Adiabatic hasn’t named its customers or shared revenue, valuation, or order-book size.
The new money will go toward product development, hiring engineers, and pushing annual manufacturing capacity to 100 MWh. The company hasn’t disclosed its current capacity, so it’s hard to say from the outside exactly how big a jump that is .
The strategy is smart, and it’s also hard. Moving upmarket into specialized batteries can mean better margins and stickier customers. But custom systems demand tighter testing, careful supply chains, and engineering tuned to each application. Adiabatic’s real test isn’t landing orders. It’s scaling production without letting reliability slip, the one thing its customers actually pay for.
Because the prize here isn’t selling more batteries. It’s becoming the quiet power supplier behind machines that simply cannot stop working.
