Anthropic Signs $10B Compute Deal With AI Cloud Startup Volta

Anthropic has reportedly agreed to buy $10 billion of computing capacity from Volta Infra over six years, turning a newly formed cloud infrastructure startup into a major supplier for the Claude developer.
The agreement is expected to provide Anthropic with capacity from a data center in Norway built around Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin systems. Reports connect the project to Bitdeer’s Tydal campus, with total site capacity reported at 133 megawatts.
Volta was established in January 2026 by former Brookfield Asset Management executives, including founder Ricard Boada and co-founder Sofia Gumuzio. The London-based company develops, finances and operates what it calls AI factories, bringing together capital, power, land, data-center construction and computing hardware under one platform.
The startup has separately raised about $300 million at a $2.4 billion valuation, with backing reported from Nvidia, Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter, Azora and Michael Dell’s family office. Volta has around 100 employees across London, New York and Palo Alto, according to company information reported by The Times.
For Anthropic, the agreement adds another supplier to a rapidly expanding compute portfolio. The company has also announced deeper infrastructure partnerships with Amazon, Google, Broadcom, Microsoft and Nvidia as demand for Claude grows. Anthropic said in April that its annualized revenue run rate had exceeded $30 billion.
The Volta arrangement shows how the AI infrastructure market is moving beyond traditional cloud providers. New operators are combining long-term customer contracts with project finance, power agreements, and dedicated accelerator capacity.
The commercial test will be whether Volta can deliver a large Nvidia-based facility on schedule while managing energy supply, construction costs and a hardware generation that has not yet been deployed at this scale.
